Fiberglass Insulation

What.

Fiberglass insulation is a thermal barrier material made from extremely fine glass fibers that are spun and formed into batts, rolls, or loose-fill. It’s designed to be installed in walls, ceilings, attics, and floors to help regulate indoor temperatures. Lightweight, flexible, and naturally fire-resistant, fiberglass insulation slows down the movement of heat, reducing energy loss through the building envelope. It’s widely used in residential and commercial construction due to its affordability, durability, and ease of installation.

Why.

Fiberglass insulation improves indoor comfort, lowers heating and cooling costs, and helps maintain consistent temperatures throughout a building. It also provides noise reduction benefits by absorbing sound, and contributes to a safer environment with its non-combustible properties. For homeowners and builders alike, it’s a reliable, proven solution that meets modern energy codes and delivers long-term value in both new construction and retrofit projects.

About.

Fiberglass insulation is engineered to deliver thermal performance by trapping pockets of air within fine glass fibers. One of its key specifications is R-value, which measures resistance to heat flow. Wall cavities framed with 2x4 studs typically accommodate insulation with R-13 to R-15, while 2x6 walls can hold R-19 to R-21. Attic spaces in colder climates may require R-38 to R-49 to meet energy codes and achieve optimal efficiency.

Installers can choose between faced and unfaced fiberglass batts. Faced insulation has a vapor barrier (usually kraft paper) that helps manage moisture and is typically used in exterior walls or ceilings. Unfaced insulation is ideal for layering, interior walls, or areas where vapor control isn’t necessary.

Available in pre-cut batts, rolls, or loose-fill, fiberglass adapts to nearly any space. It’s non-combustible, resistant to mold when kept dry, and easy to install around obstructions like wiring or plumbing. With proper fit and air sealing, fiberglass insulation contributes significantly to both comfort and energy savings.
